Ursuline Academy Project
Ursuline Academy is the oldest Catholic school in the United States. In 1727, a group of nuns traveled from France to New Orleans to nurse the sick, educate the poor and to establish a school for women. They believed that the education of women was essential to a civilized and just society. They provided the first classes for female African-American slaves, free women of color, and Native Americans. That same spirit of inclusion and diversity still exists in the halls of Ursuline Academy today. And as we see women stepping up out there more than ever, these girls have been standing out for three centuries.
